I came across the Letter of Peace at the Interdisciplinary Workshops organised by the Ámbito María Corral in 1998. When I read it, it seemed to me to be more like 10 principles of life than just a letter. Key principles to be developed in our own personal lives and socially.

It is a letter which cannot be read just once, and every time you read it, it seems new or you see something different. But of course, every moment for each of us is unique and distinct, and so it is for the letter.

Its message was closely in agreement with the ideas I had been reflecting on at that time: on life, on existence. I had been debating the reason for our existence as human beings, what our mission could be, and why reality was appearing more and more hostile in the world every day.

The cruel reality which we find on our planet today, like death, war, the destruction of nature, catastrophes, and so on, leads us on many occasions to demotivation or to revolt. I was caught between one and the other, and so the letter came to me at just the right time, and it seemed perfect for my concerns.

I found strength, optimism, solidarity, and friendliness in it. The letter seemed to be a dream and reality. Something which we lacked but which was within us, something which seemed not to exist, but which had always been at our side.

It revitalised me, it fed me. I believe that those who come across the letter, cannot dodge away from feeling it, and those who feel it cannot fail to live it. That is why I invite you to read it over and over again during your whole lives and in different circumstances of life. We have found an instrument which awakens our “ontological conscience”. “Friends”, let us not allow opportunities to pass us by. They exist and are unique, like you and like me, like all of us, brothers in existence.
